Over the school holidays, I started a game with Tim over snack time.
The following days, he kept asking me if we could do it again.
He liked the challenge more then the snack though!
I started out with pretzels for 1’s and pretzel sticks for 10’s. Giving him a visual way to count.
If he had the correct answer he got to eat the lot.
The trick is to get the challenge just right, too easy, they get bored. Too hard and they give up.
Now often during weekends he asks if we can play “The Snack Game”
We’re now progressing into the double digits, where counting is no longer sufficient, where he needs to alter his thinking pattern. Surprise, maths for fun...
